“Why does my car squeal when I start it?”
If you’re hearing a squealing or “screeching noise” when you start your car or while you are driving, the most likely cause is “belt squeal.”
“What it belt squeal?”
Some of the belts in your engine compartment are used to drive accessory components on your car like the power steering pump or A/C compressor. Other belts are far more critical and are there to drive vital components of the engine such as the water pump and alternator. As the belts age they begin to stretch and slip as they try to turn the pulleys on each of those components, and this is often the source of that squealing noise.
If you’re hearing belt squeal, it’s time to get those belts looked at by one of our certified automotive technicians. Come on in to see us, or call us today at 972-317-4005 to set up an appointment!
